ALONG THE WAY

A Haiku Take on Seasons

(i)

Ribbon of gray smoke
Tying a winter cabin
To a winter sky

(ii)

Swan through April moon
Winging, anxious, north to nest …
Autumn moon awaits.

(iii)

Spring earth still cooling
Did the ancient ostrich fly, or
Will its offspring yet?

(iv)

Arise, Fair Sun, to
Kafka’s beetle on its back
Drive the mist away

(v)

Tense limbs put to flight
At a sudden woodland snap –
Pinecones ripening

(vi)

Cliffs above the sea
Basking carefree in the spray …
Sand born at their feet

(vii)

Red sun, cool blue grass
Palette of a small child’s dream –
Colors as they feel

(viii)

Fragrant waves of grass
Sang above the dreamer’s head
Many dreams ago

(ix)

‘No vacancy’ sign
No money for cigarettes –
Home away from home

(x)

A crimson dart rests
Among the still, cold branches –
Winter cardinal
